J & H Picture Framers was opened in the early nineties as a bespoke picture framing business by its present owner Jim Allison. As an ex - Royal Navy man, Jim decided to base the background theme of the picture framers on the Royal Navy and local scenes of Portsmouth. This theme allowed Jim to combine his picture framing expertise with his passion for the Royal Navy and over the last fourteen years he has amassed one of the largest collections of Royal Navy Ship Photos in the UK.
Shortly after the opening of the business Jim was joined by another ex-matelot who made Royal Navy ship badges. These badges are made in the traditional 'Pusser's Way' - cast from a mould, hand-painted and then fixed to a mahogany plaque. Today, J & H Picture Framers has over 1,400 moulds of Royal Navy ship badges and probably the largest collection in the country!
With these extensive collections of photos and badges J & H Picture Framers specialise in creating unique collages and framed displays depicting a Royal Navy Man's service. The framed displays of a ship badge, photo and cap tally are immensely popular and make great gizzits (gifts).
J & H Picture Framers have a superb reputation for quality picture framing and have also participated in the Festival of the Sea event in Portsmouth where their extensive collection of Royal Navy photos was well received.
Recently another ex-matelot of the field gun type, has joined the team at J & H Picture Framers. He is brimful with new ideas, so please revisit this site soon to see what new Royal Navy memorabilia J & H has to offer.
